Hydrotherapy

Feel the powerful therapeutic effects of water therapy

Hydrotherapy combines the unique properties of warm-water and clinical exercise prescription to achieve specific therapeutic goals.

Temperature

  • 32-35 degrees is the optimum temperature for positive physiological changes in the body.

Hydrostatic pressure

  • Immersed in water the body experiences continuous inward forces, resulting in:

    • A shift in circulation and swelling from the limbs.

    • Reduction in sensory input mechanisms (pain modulating).

Buoyancy

  • Immersion in water produces varying degrees of weightlessness, reducing weight-bearing loads, allowing movements to be performed with more ease.

Viscosity and drag

  • Water is approximately 50x thicker than air. Water produces forces (hydrostatic resistance) that oppose motion.

    • Falling is slowed for balance training.

    • Movements are slower, allowing increased control.

    • Resistance force is provided for strength, power and endurance training.
